This is not actually a course, but a way for you to get your basic information entered in to the CourseStorm website, including your contact information and your dog's information and health data, as well as to read our Hold Harmless agreement, our refund policy, and our severe weather policy. This will let you get familiar with CourseStorm so when we actually have classes for which you can sign up, you will ready to go.

Intro to Agility Obstacles 500

Course Description

We introduce the dogs to all of the different obstacles seen on an agility course, at safely lowered heights. Your dog needs to be comfortable being held by the instructor or assistant, and to have enough self-control to work around other dogs without being disruptive.

Equipment

  • 4-6 ft cloth or leather leash
  • flat collar
  • treat bag
  • lots of small soft treats
  • toy that does not roll or squeak
  • sensible shoes in which handler can run

Prerequisite

Puppies need to be at least 6 months old. Dogs/puppies need to have taken a basic obedience course or have instructor approval to participate in this class. Please contact us at info@northfielddogtraining.com if you have any questions at all.

Full Course

Intro to Scent

Weeks: 6

Class size: minimum of 3, maximum of 6 Suitable for dogs 6 months and up

- Designed for scent teams that have little to no experience in nosework. In this course we will use our target odor (birch) to teach the basics of nosework. We will also cover air movement, working as a team, creating dedication to odor, reading your dog’s body language, and designing simple searches.

Scent kit provided with cost of class.

THERE ARE NO DOGS THE FIRST CLASS, ONLY PEOPLE

Lots of small, easy-to-chew, high-value treats (this is from the dog’s perspective; they should love what they are getting) and a favorite non-squeaker tug toy

If your dog is active and likes to bark, bring something to occupy them during down time as well as a mat or bed

REGISTRATION IS BY DOG. DO NOT REGISTER A SECOND PERSON - YOU WILL END UP BEING CHARGED TWICE.

Odor Foundations

ODOR FOUNDATIONS

Weeks: 6

Length: 60 minutes per week

Class size: minimum of 3, maximum of 6

Suitable for dogs 6 months and up

Prerequisites: Intro to Scent

ODOR FOUNDATIONS - Continuation of skills started in the Intro to Scent course. We will continue to build skills, continue to learn about air movement, search techniques, working with boxes and containers, and interior searches. The target odors will be birch and anise. Scent kit provided with cost of class.

***Students should plan to remain in this class for multiple sessions as they work to build skills and search accuracy.

The course includes on-line videos that will help support learning outside of class, a course syllabus that will be emailed before the first session, and a scent kit that will be distributed at the first class and is included in the class price.

NOVICE SCENT

Weeks: 6

Length: 60 minutes per week

Class size: minimum of 3, maximum of 6

Suitable for dogs 1 year and up

Prerequisites: Odor Foundations

NOVICE SCENT - Continuation of skills started in the Odor Foundations course. We will continue to build skills, continue to learn about air movement, search techniques, working with boxes and containers, vehicle, buried/water, and interior searches.

The target odors will be AKC odors of birch, anise, clove, cypress. Scent kit provided with the cost of class.

***Students should plan to remain in this class for multiple sessions as they work to build skills and search accuracy.

The course includes on-line videos that will help support learning outside of class, a course syllabus that will be emailed before the first session, and a scent kit that will be distributed at the first class and is included in the class price.

Star Puppy Weds

STAR PUPPY

Weeks: 6

Length: 60 minutes per week

Class size:  minimum of 3, maximum of 6

Prerequisites: None.

S.T.A.R. Puppy is for 10 weeks to 8 months old. In this class we cover learning theory and how to communicate effectively with your puppy using AKC’s S.T.A.R. Puppy skills. You will learn how to teach basic obedience skills, tackle common puppy issues, and build relationship and engagement to lay a solid foundation for living together. Skills covered include, loose leash walking, recall, and basic behaviors, such as sit, down, and stay. In the last class we will test for AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy. Testing forms provided.

The course includes support videos and weekly handouts provided via email. Test forms handed out at week 5.

  • If your dog is active and likes to bark, bring something to occupy them during down time.

Adolescent Manners Weds

ADOLESCENT MANNERS WEDNESDAY

Weeks: 6

Length: 60 minutes per week

Class size:  minimum of 3, maximum of 6

Prerequisites: none.

Adolescent Manners For puppies 25 weeks to 2 years old. In this class we cover learning theory and how to communicate effectively with your adolescent. We also learn how to teach basic obedience skills, tackle common adolescent issues, and build relationship and engagement to lay a solid foundation for future training and building on already learned skills. Skills covered include, loose leash walking, recall, and behaviors, such as sit, down, and impulse control.
